There is so much Life in Local Food

It starts with one gardener, one farmer, one crop, one recipe at a time.

I started my garden to table journey years ago (including the years I lived in Sweden) and have taken these learning experiences and poured them into Forks in the Dirt- and a book I recently coauthored, Small-Scale Homesteading.

Let’s start digging in!

I believe everyone is welcome on the road to local food. It doesn’t matter if you grow your own, buy from your local farmer, or donate money or produce to a food shelf. If we all do a little something together we will accomplish something big.

Let’s make this journey more fun by traveling together. Go ahead,  jump on my hay-wagon and come along for the ride!

Forks in the Dirt is a place where the best in-season information has been gathered to make eating real, local, healthy food fun and attainable. From CSAs to Backyard Chickens, Gardening How To, Farmers Markets to Composting  -we cover a lot of ground on the many paths to helping you dig your food.

I am privileged to have the choice to grow my own food. I have the space and have gathered the knowledge over the years. Sharing my love of real food with you is a joy. I’ve compiled many articles on specific veggies, like Cucumbers, Tomatoes and Kale, and general Season Extension and succession planting articles as well.

I promise lots of flavor, dirt under your fingernails and an open mind!
